Intro. A robotics team building inspection systems for industrial campuses needed a mobile base that could do one thing above all: carry their sensors and algorithms reliably, indoors and out. They started with two VRX UGV chassis — and standardized on the platform after six months.
Challenge. The payload was heavy and unforgiving: LiDAR, cameras and a manipulator arm, all moving across rough ground and through tight indoor spaces. The team needed both remote control and autonomous navigation interfaces, and off-the-shelf hobby platforms were neither stiff nor durable enough.
Solution. The VRX UGV chassis uses four independently driven and independently steered wheels for precise, flexible motion, with off-road tyres and a payload-ready mounting structure. It supports external compute, LiDAR and camera frames, and exposes interfaces for both RC and autonomous control. Two prototype units were delivered for algorithm development.

Results.
Chassis ran continuously for six months in mixed indoor/outdoor testing without structural failure.
The team standardized on the platform and scaled to 10 units for field trials.
